Pigeons:
Pigeons mate for life and rear their broods together, although if one dies the other will take a new mate. Once the simple nest is built, the female lays an egg and then another a day or so later. The incubation period for common pigeons is 17 to 19 days. The female sits on the egg from late afternoon through the night until about 10AM. The male then takes over and does the day shift. Once the eggs hatch, both parents feed the young squabs.
The first food is pigeon milk or crop milk, a cheesy substance that appears in the crops of the parents at hatching time and is fed for a week or so. Then the adults start regurgitating partially digested grains for the young. By the time the squabs are ready to fly, about 4 weeks, the father is doing most of the feeding. The squabs are fed for another week to 10 days after they are free-flying.
Raccoons:
Raccoons are often considered pests because they forage in trash receptacles or eat dog food left on
back porches; they are able to open garbage cans with their hands Raccoons mate between April
and May Raccoons are nocturnal meaning active at night. You may hear noises (loud noises) in
the attic, walls, roof, garage, fireplace etc., during this time You may also hear squealing or crying
during mating season
Vents, attic fans, and roofing can easily be damaged by a Raccoon attempting to enter or exit your premises. Raccoons may damage your premises due to urine and fecal matter.
Raccoons do not eat cats or dogs. However, they will attack and fight if cornered. If a raccoon appears to be aggressive and showing abnormal behavior, such as appearing sick or disoriented
then there is a good possibility that the raccoon is rabid In this case the proper authorities should be notified.
Squirrels
Squirrels are a very common nuisance animal. If squirrels are your pests, then you need them physically trapped and removed. Most pest control companies employ poison spraying techniques for insects and small invertebrates. They don't deal with larger animals, like mammals and reptiles. The squirrel is a mammal, and the only way to stop squirrel damage is to catch the squirrels in a cage and have them taken away from the area. If not by trapping, sometimes squirrel pest control can be performed via the use of one-way doors. Regardless, once all of the squirrels are out of the building, the entry points should be permanently sealed. NOTE: You cannot use poison to control squirrels. There is no registered or effective or legal (or humane) poison that will eliminate squirrels.
Opossums
If opossums are your pests, then you need them physically trapped and removed. Most pest control companies are used to spraying poisons for insects and small invertebrates. They don't deal with larger animals, like mammals and reptiles. The opossum is a mammal, and the only way to stop possum damage is to catch the possums in a cage and have them taken away from the area. NOTE: You cannot use poison to control opossums. There is no registered or effective or legal (or humane) poison that will eliminate possums.
